Where the bills come from

Bills Watch reads only official parliamentary and government sources. For each parliament it uses the most structured source available, in this order: Official API → JSON feed → XML feed → RSS / Atom feed → Structured data endpoint → Parliament database export → HTML page (no structured source found). Sources are checked every day.

  1. Parliament of Australia

    Loaded, with gaps

Office of Parliamentary Counsel (Federal Register of Legislation) · official page · Official API (rung 1 of 7)

Commonwealth bills that have become law this year and last — every Act on the Federal Register of Legislation, with its assent date and a link to the bill on the Parliament’s own site.

    • Bills still before Parliament, and bills that failed or lapsed, are not shown: they are published only on aph.gov.au, ParlInfo and ParlWork, which answer automated requests with a web application firewall block.
    • Titles are the Acts’ titles. The bill’s own title is one click away on the Parliament’s page.

HTTP 403, "Page Blocked by WAF".
Parliamentary Handbook API: reachable, but it covers members, not bills.

  2. Parliament of New South Wales

    Loaded

Parliament of New South Wales (Hansard API) · official page · Official API (rung 1 of 7)

Every bill taken up in the current Parliament, with each stage in each House dated — first reading, second reading, committee, third reading, return with amendments, assent — from the Parliament’s Hansard API.

    • Hansard records that a stage was debated, not how the vote went, so a bill negatived at second reading reads as having reached second reading.
    • Bill pages link to the Parliament’s bill-details address by the bill id Hansard gives. The Parliament’s website blocks automated checks, so those links were checked by hand.

  3. Parliament of Victoria

    Loaded

Office of the Chief Parliamentary Counsel Victoria (legislation.vic.gov.au) · official page · Structured data endpoint (rung 5 of 7)

Every bill in the current Parliament and those changed in the last 13 months, with status, the member who introduced it in each House, and the stage-by-stage timeline from each bill's page.

    • The JSON search endpoint is the one legislation.vic.gov.au itself uses, not a documented API, so it can change without notice.
    • Stage dates come from each bill page on the same site.
    What else was tried (1)
No bills listing at this address (HTTP 404); the Parliament site exposes no bills API.

133 bills recorded, 50 current. Last checked 2026-09-15.

  4. Parliament of Queensland

    Loaded, with gaps

Queensland Parliamentary Counsel's Office (legislation.qld.gov.au) · official page · Structured data endpoint (rung 5 of 7)

Bills introduced in the current Parliament (the introduced print), and which of them have a third-reading print — the bill as passed.

    • The Parliament of Queensland site, which publishes stages and sponsors, answers automated requests with an Azure WAF challenge, so only the Parliamentary Counsel data is used.
    • Stages between introduction and passing are not published in structured form.

HTTP 403, Azure WAF JavaScript challenge.
Atom feed of new bill prints: reachable, but lists only recent prints, so used as a freshness check rather than the source.

75 bills recorded, 21 current. Last checked 2026-09-15.

  5. Parliament of Western Australia

    Loaded, with gaps

Parliamentary Counsel's Office Western Australia (legislation.wa.gov.au) · official page · XML feed (rung 3 of 7)

Bills currently in Parliament, their bill numbers, and the Acts each one amends or repeals — from the Parliamentary Counsel's Atom feed and the table it links to.

    • No stages, dates or sponsors: the Parliament of Western Australia bills database answers automated requests with an Azure WAF challenge.
    • A bill leaves the table when it passes or fails, so FOCUp can say it is no longer before Parliament but not which.
    What else was tried (1)
HTTP 403, Azure WAF JavaScript challenge (the ReadViewEntries JSON view is behind the same challenge).

45 bills recorded, 45 current. Last checked 2026-09-15.

  6. Parliament of South Australia

    Loaded, with gaps

Parliament of South Australia (Clerks of both Houses) · official page · Parliament database export (rung 6 of 7)

Every bill of the current session from the Clerks' Index to Bills — Council and Assembly bill numbers, Act numbers once assented, passed both Houses, received from the Assembly, negatived in either House, and whether each is a Government or private member's bill.

    • The indexes are PDFs, read by text position; they carry no stage dates.
    • The House of Assembly index is updated less often than the Council index. A bill found only in it shows the stage with the date the Clerk printed.
    • Bill pages on SA Legislation answer automated requests with a Cloudflare challenge, so links go to the Parliament’s index pages.
    What else was tried (3)
HTTP 403, Cloudflare "Just a moment" challenge.
Builds its index in the browser from the Parliament document-library API (dynamic-content-api.parliament.sa.gov.au), which is the source used.
Data.SA: the legislative database packages cover Acts, not bills.

35 bills recorded, 23 current. Last checked 2026-09-15.

  7. Parliament of Tasmania

    Loaded

Parliament of Tasmania · official page · HTML page (no structured source found) (rung 7 of 7)

Current bills, each with its stage table for both Houses (dates for first reading through Royal Assent), who introduced it, and the bill text.

    • Read from HTML pages: no structured source publishes Tasmanian bills.
    What else was tried (2)
New-bills feed advertised by Tasmanian Legislation: HTTP 404.
Reachable, but its bill listings end in 2014.

41 bills recorded, 41 current. Last checked 2026-09-15.

  8. ACT Legislative Assembly

    Loaded

ACT Legislative Assembly · official page · Parliament database export (rung 6 of 7)

The Assembly's own Bills List for the current Assembly: bills before it, passed (with Act number and notification date), negatived, and withdrawn, each marked as a private member's bill or not.

    • The Bills List is republished after each sitting period, so a bill introduced this week appears after the next edition.
    What else was tried (1)
ACT Legislation Register: the bill list is rendered in the browser; no public data endpoint behind it was found.

71 bills recorded, 17 current. Last checked 2026-09-15.

  9. Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory

    Loaded

Northern Territory Government (legislation.nt.gov.au) · official page · HTML page (no structured source found) (rung 7 of 7)

Bills before the Legislative Assembly and bills recently passed, each with serial number, sponsor, introduction date, status and the bill text.

    • Read from HTML pages: no structured source publishes Territory bills.
    What else was tried (1)
      HTTP 403 to automated requests.

9 bills recorded, 9 current. Last checked 2026-09-15.
