Consumer Legislation Amendment Bill 2026

What the bill says it does

The main purposes of this Act are— (a) to amend the Australian Consumer Law and Fair Trading Act 2012— (i) in relation to the forfeiture of documents and things seized under Part 6.4 of that Act; and (ii) in relation to the disposal (including destruction) of things seized under Part 6.4 of that Act; and (iii) to change who is prohibited from engaging in debt collection; and (b) to amend the Conveyancers Act 2006 to provide for the suspension of licences of conveyancers who do not meet certain trust account audit requirements; and (c) to amend the Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995 in relation to minor general matters and certain agreements to vary domestic building contracts; and (d) to amend the Estate Agents Act 1980— (i) to provide for the collection, use and disclosure by the Director of information related to the sale of residential properties; and (ii) to provide for the suspension of licences of estate agents who do not meet certain trust account audit requirements; and (iii) to provide further for the determination of the estimate of selling prices for residential properties; and (iv) to require that agents and agents' representatives publish sellers' reserve prices for residential properties for sale within 7 days before an auction or fixed-date sale; and (v) in relation to the requirements for property price statements for the sale of residential properties; …
